DrDamn https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/ps5s-social-features/ “Before we’d say, ‘OK, I’m playing my console game…’ and there’s connectivity and there’s friends, sharing of stats and stuff like this, but a lot of it, you’re still going to the web to engage in the discussion,” he said. “I think we’re going to see in this generation a lot more of that interlaced, where you’re not leaving the console as much to go get the other data… It’ll be really interesting to see how much the audience takes to it and what they do with it, and what developers do with it.” He added: “[To] get into the sharing capabilities, the social stuff that’s been built into PS5 – I’m still not sure how much I can really talk about… I want to be careful, but they’re doing a lot more things that are like, enabling you to sort of open your experience a little wider to your human network of people that you’re connected with.”
Jonbwfc Yes, I really look forward to typing IMs on a joypad, rather than on a phone or keyboard. Also, you get my social media login details out of my cold dead hand.
Jogort https://blog.playstation.com/2020/09/12/watch-live-playstation-5-showcase-on-wednesday-september-16/ Excitement building 🤪 9pm UK time
Jogort Brave yeah it happened on the 9th I think, didn’t see it, was far too jet lagged to remember to watch it 🤣
Jonbwfc OK, next one in Sony’s “it’s got literally nothing to do with video games or console launches, but it is kind of cool” hype building strategy
Alex Bloomberg Japan. Predicting 449 for the disk and 399 for diskless. Sony struggling to fill production quotas.
DrDamn Alex https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2020-09-15-sony-reportedly-cuts-ps5-production-by-4m-units Sony have now officially denied the production problems report.
Jogort I read a similar article about reduction in production but that it was also still way higher than they initially forecast. Price seems about right, couldn’t see it being £100 difference between the 2 just because it doesn’t have a bluray drive.
Gammerz Compares with $299/$499 for Xbox. Undercut the expensive model, but overpriced the cheaper one!!?? Oh, it’s an estimate! But both PS5s should have same graphical capabilities, so hence it’s more expensive than X1SS.
Jogort Gammerz Yeah I can’t see them mtaching the XSS price with what is basically a full fat PS5 just driveless
Alex Pricing the diskless version must be a bit of a headache for them, as removing the drive doesn’t actually save you much manufacturing costs at that scale. At the same time they want to funnel people into the diskless version because the digital marketplace is better for them. Therefore there’s a question of how much are they willing to lose on this machine vs how much they’ll make back from the digital sales. There’s definitely a sweet spot they will be trying to find. At least the diskless version of the PS5 looks better.
DrDamn Yeah, I’m hoping it equals a good $100/£75 saving on the disc version. $499/$399 = £450 / £375. That puts it close enough to the XSS to really cause some damage.
Brave Very good show imo. Games games games then a very short when and how much. TGS next week will be interesting.
