DrDamn Isnāt Deep Rock Galactic a Live Service game?
Nope. I think thatās a big stretch. The game can be played offline and the model is ākeep making, and updating a good game and people will buy it, or support itā. The performance pass is entirely free and the content rolls into the main game at the end of the season. The reason itās there is that they wanted to see if they could keep the good things about these passes and discard the bad. I think they succeeded but ymmv. Itās presence imo doesnāt make it live service.
They intend it to be free for the foreseeable future as well.
They have cosmetic DLC, which is the only thing that can be paid for outside the main game, but thatās not a Live Service exclusive feature. Thatās in⦠games.
Live services can be ok. No Manās Sky is considered one*, but the good ones are rare. And this many in 4 years? Thatās nuts. Most of them are doomed to fail imo as they cannibalise each other and the market for single player games that they have so far excelled at.
And can you genuinely see a live service with Jim Ryanās fingerprint on it that wonāt be ultimately bad for consumers? I really canāt.
Destiny 2 is a great game, but as a live service itās the number one example of treating your customers badly, deleting content that they paid for being just one of the egregious examples.
*I donāt see it as one personally, as itās the same premise. Make a good game and keep it updated and people will buy it. To my mind, live service games typically have psychological hooks that tap directly into your bank account.
