I think that’s taking it a bit too far, for me it was closer to being a racing incident. I was surprised when Verstappen got the penalty.
I think the issue with him is that when you go wheel to wheel with someone into a corner someone always ends up having to relinquish.
If you look back at all the times Hamilton and Verstappen have gone wheel to wheel it always been Hamilton to back out of it first. The two exceptions were Silverstone when Lewis was determined to get past and today when Lewis sort of didn’t have a choice.
Verstappen’s problem is that he will never give up a position, but that’s also what makes him such a brilliant driver to watch. Hamilton sort of has to keep his nose in to teach him a lesson but it doesn’t seem to be sinking in yet.
That said today Verstappen and Horner were much more consiliatory than I expected, I think they knew he was a bit day late and a dollar short with that move.
