Alex It got off to a slow start, but man the last two thirds were fantastic. I was jumping for joy when Lando managed to make it within the five second gap at the end. Feel really bad for Albon the Hamilton magnet and for Russell who would have been on for a point if not for his retirement. It’s going to be fascinating to see how things look next week at the same venue.
BritishBean Lando was great. At the end, for a second it looked like he was going to get lynched like France 2019 and I thought “oh here we go again!” but then he turned it up to eleven! Roll on next week!
Alex Alonso set for F1 return. Due to be announced in the next few days. 🤔 https://racer.com/2020/07/07/alonso-poised-for-f1-return-with-renault/amp/?__twitter_impression=true
Brave Yeah. There’s been a lot talk about this the last wee while. Good. He’ll be mid pack but in a team that he’s likely to gel with. Leaves Vettel with few options though.
Alex Brave Leaves Vettel with few options though. None really. There’s Aston Martin but that would require Papa Stroll firing his son.
BritishBean I could have lived without Alonso. There’s no doubting his speed but in an uncompetitive car he turns to a 5 year old. I’m not sure what he expects from Renault but without big internal changes they’re unlikely to climb the performance ladder anytime soon.
Brave Alex I do wonder if/hope that Hamilton’s diversity push will end this whole “if you’re a son of a billionaire you can have a seat” bull. Getting actual talent into these seats would make a massive difference to the racing up and down the grid. Latifi being the latest chinless wonder getting in the way of actual driving talent. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Latifi
Alex I hope that the cost cap will eliminate that, along with a fairer distribution of prize funds. That should take the financial pressure off the teams and allow them to compete on a level playing field. The problem with F1 over the last two or three decades is that it’s been impossible to run an F1 team as a going concern, instead they are huge money sinks for people with deep pockets. The old adage goes that the quickest way to become a millionaire in F1 is to start off a billionaire. Hopefully the new spending cap and financial structure coming over the next few years will sort that out and the teams will be able to turn a profit on prize money alone. That’s the plan anyway. Hopefully then the teams will be able to hire drivers based on skill rather than wallet.
Brave Danny Ric just limping quite heavily away from a substantial shunt in practice. Luckily the rear took the brunt but the rear left is now non existent. =\
GassyHaggis This session is a little mental. A lot you’d expect to hook it up aren’t and vice versa. Also, Mugello, I’m looking forward to that.
Brave Some talk that P2 ( this one ) could end up being qualification. Seriously n big thunderstorms predicted tomorrow. Gasly getting very annoyed because they’re not making the most of it “if this is qualy” (his words).
GassyHaggis Brave Yeah but I don’t think that has ever happened before. I think it has been a session on the morning of the race in the past if Saturday qualifying couldn’t happen. They seem uncertain from teams through to the broadcasters.
