This is fine with me, mostly helps solidify my decision to pass on Xbox next generation. I do think it’d be nice if there was a significant power difference between Xbox and PS6 though, it makes things more interesting if nothing else.

This is going to be a global problem for the next few years, as all the AI data centres buy up all the RAM. The cost of RAM is going to sky rocket and all consumer electronics are going to get more expensive. This will be the first of many price hikes across the industry. Hopefully it won’t be too long until the AI bubble bursts.

A Game About Digging A Hole - on GamePass currently. Gave it a go, quite short and sweet, interesting and fun. Takes only a couple of hours to run through.
One thing which did annoy me a little was that no achievements pop until you finish it once - it then says start again and you can get achievements this time - bit of a cheap way to artificially elongate the game I thought.

See also Sony shifting away from PC releases for single player games. Seems like it is the first step towards XBox as a console being more obviously a PC.

GamePass reducing in price along with a realisation that CoD being day one on GamePass was maybe a bit of a bad idea. Backpedal-tastic. New leadership are maybe making some of the right moves here? At least sensible ones anyway. CoD removal feels a bit like a slippery slope for other major titles. (Boiling the frog again).

I don’t think they can put the exclusives genie back in the bottle, though there is talk of that too maybe?

Alex new round of redundancies and cuts are incoming. The new leadership has been putting out all the messages the fans wanted to hear - new hardware, exclusives etc. Reality is starting to kick in now. I don’t know where XBox goes from here, but it’s not got a clear path back to where they might want it to be. It feels more like they are looking to milk the faithful one more time whilst they work out what their real plan is.

Seems more and more like the recent showcase was effectively putting some of their studios in the shop window as they are now actively looking to disband or offload key studios.

Double Fine, Compulsion, Ninja Theory and now Undead Labs and Arkane, plus side impacts to studios like IO Interactive as funding is pulled.

The vague positive side is that there is the opportunity for these studios to find alternate backing, so they aren’t just shuttering them, but are they realistically being given enough time in what is already a tough market?

Oh and XBox console prices are going up again - with a basic XSX 1TB now $800. That’ll help.

I cancelled my sub not very long ago in response to a similar bout of redundancies. Then they got me interested in them again and now they pull this?

If Arkane close, or Double Fine, then I’m never considering Xbox as a platform again. It’s cultural vandalism and absolutely unforgivable. I genuinely think the medium would be much better off without them. They’ve done so much damage.

Ever since Sunset Overdrive it’s been pretty apparent they they simply haven’t known what to do with a game that isn’t Halo or Gears and here we are, back to being a Halo and Gears machine again. It’s ridiculous.

I really hope the devs find a way to go on. And stick it to their former owners in the process.

If they close Arkane then I’m done. Selling the Xbox. It’s just gathering dust anyway.
