I don’t quite know what to tag this game with so let me know if it fits somewhere else.
It’s a shooter action puzzler story game with RPG elements but at times it’s not quite some of these things either. It’s very strange and I really like it.
The action elements are slick and snappy and feel like an evolution of Quantum Break. There are live action elements which feel like a thread taken from QB too but they’re not entire episodes or anything. In fact, when you find these it really feels like Lost, the TV series.
The whole thing feels like a much more sinister version of Warehouse 13 and I’m really finding the whole mix of environmental and found storytelling seriously compelling.
Most games lose me if there’s a heap of found diary entries. If anything there’s more of those here than I’ve ever seen in any other game, and it could be argued that it ruins the flow. But I stop and devour every nugget of info I can find.
This is Remedy at their very best. Can’t recommend it highly enough. Oh, and Ahti the Janitor is definitely the best NPC ever created.
It’s wild, and goes in directions you’d never expect.
