Personally I think raytracing makes a massive difference having seen it on my lappy, but I think I’m a niche audience. I’m not convinced that the mass market will even notice it. I’ll be interested to see how much they hype that aspect of it.
what I’m really hoping for is something that’ll end the constant refrain of the frame rate police. If we get towards performance where 4K is the norm and 60fps is always there if you want it then maybe Digital Foundry will cease to be the lead weight on the industry that it’s been this gen.
As for 8k, I honestly can’t see 8k being anything other than a marketing bullet point. 4K tellies are still not that common and it’ll be years before I voluntarily get rid of mine.
I still think the interesting battle will be in the cloud. I’m glad we’re getting one more gen of traditional consoles at least, but by the end of it we’ll be able to see what a streaming games industry really looks like.
