I saw an article in wireframe by the developer where he mentioned they’d tried to set some kind of “wordtrap” for him re the use of the word via email.

It’s just beyond ridiculous. And counterproductive, because most folk who might well be at least partially ideologically aligned (like myself) will still throw their hands up and say “fuck you”.

It’s like a vegan word salad.

EDIT: i.e. I have vegan mates, but honestly they all know the minute they start pointing out all the problems (that I’m already fucking aware of) with it, that’s the point where I buy a second one and eat it IN THEIR FACE.

and now I need a new iPad, plus the wall needs re-plastering where the previous iPad ended up embedded in it. I can give you plenty of words which ARE inherently offensive. They were invented to be. Most of them, I would happily use in the face of the author of this article.

Yet another reminder why I stopped reading Kotaku.

EttSP is quite fun thought isn’t it? I’m trying a pacifist run though - or at least, only kill things that are trying to kill me first. Wonder if it’ll let me do that or if there are vital resources locked inside some creature’s gizzards that has to be liberated for the story to work.

Actual gameplay impressions…

It’s fun.

Oh, you need more, OK. I like it a lot. It’s quite chilled out even given some of the planet’s inhabitants take an instant dislike to you. The whole corporate satire thing is done quite well, it’s overtly there but it’s not overbearing or unwieldy. It almost has a ‘Portal’-ey feel to it which is pretty high praise. It’s got a nicey weird sense of humour too.

The actual game mechanics are fine, I do find the movement a bit slow but I’m wondering if that’s because I’m at the root of all the upgrade trees for my suit & equipment.

There’s an interesting story going on, which I don’t think I’ve got every far into yet.

It’s not really anything like No Mans Sky if I’m honest despite what some reviews/comments have said. It’s a much more ‘curated’ experience than that, but that’s fine.

So far I’d say ’much better than you’d expect for the price’. My only caveat is I have no idea exactly how much content is in there yet.

Brave The whole “I’m not offended but some people might be” is the cheapest trick in the book, it’s basically a variant on '“won’t someone think of the children”. It’s genuinely quite pitiable.

Just spent the afternoon playing this with The Kid. Definitely has me out of my current “doldrums” re gaming. I absolutely love the whole vibe.

@Jonbwfc has nailed the summary tbh. All I can add really is that the “what happens if I do thi… BOOM” thing is very strong in this game and it’s exquisitely done.

Oh and the whole “what the actual fuck is THAT?” thing just seems to constantly drive you forward throughout the game.

Love the humour, love the world building, the story is very well done so far, the upgrade path is unlocking some very fun gameplay ideas at a hell of a rate, and it just keeps surprising us with new delights both large and small.

At one point I got attacked by a new aggressive creature, and when I killed it two more popped up. Only then did I discover that I was in a little horde mode and shouted for Lily to come help me (she was away doing her own thing). She arrived just as I died, killed the final beast and made sure we got the prize while my meat clone was reconstituted back at the ship. =)

The ship told her I’d died again and that’s why she preferred Lily. 😄😲

It’s an absolute joy so far.
