Alex incidentally I noticed that a fair number of reviews were of the PC version. So whilst From are known for fairly poor PC performance maybe something in the setup somewhere. Though I also think a lot of reviews are done under the “promise” from developers that day one patches will solve all ills they might encounter. I understand DF agreed not publish any performance tests until day one patches had been applied.

Alex They’re really not that hard mostly. You just can’t get away with mashing buttons like you can in most other games.

The big thing with souls games is psychology. They hit you hard with a tough boss early for one thing and the size and camera angle of most bosses does the rest.

The one thing I think that makes it particularly rough is invasions. But in general I actually think Returnal was far far harder.

From what I gather invasions in Elden Ring are limited to when you are playing co-op. Not sure that holds for the whole game though.

Well frustrating might be a better word. I’ve played enough of these games to understand why people like them.

Fumanstu I briefly considered buying it on Xbox just so I could play earlier, but I talked myself out of it.

Might be about to buy a new telly tho.

To be fair, I’m not sure I’ve done myself any favours. I’ve played the first 45 minutes but now have to endure an afternoon of work and an evening of the kids hogging the TV. 😢

So far, so loving it. I hate the fact that I’m tempting fate here but I’ve been waiting for the heavy hitting initial blow to come and it hasn’t? I keep mentally wincing as if I’m expecting someone to hit me 😄

Open world is magnificently weird in a souls game. In fact it’s feeling weird to me that I’m in a From souls game that I don’t already know inside out. It’s all a bit tentative because of that. Exciting as well though!

Yeah loving it so far. Been through slightly optional tutorial area and making my way into the big bad open world. Very much enjoying the sneaking and the jump attack. Liking the crafting stuff too.

Not really that spoilery but to be in the safe side…
Got ass handed to me by golden horse bloke but have snuck round him for now and found a cave.

I managed to stay awake long enough to create a character (went with the confessor, I do like a great big mace + healing magic build) and then started falling asleep just after the intro finished. Got the day off today tho 🎉

I can confirm that the “very light graze with an arrow, followed by two wasteful misses as the big bugger charges you, a massive change-to-melee-weapon button fumble as they arrive at your position and willfully throwing yourself onto their big axe until you very swiftly die” tactic still works.
