Slowly getting back into the swing of it after taking a little Tiny Tina break. I finally got to Radahn earlier today. The recent nerfs must have been fairly drastic, because it seemed rather easy. I’m not complaining.

Making progress again. Found a couple of new areas to explore, got a couple of minor bosses (Commander Niall, Mimic Tear) and found my new favourite spirit ash - greatshield soldier. They don’t do much damage but there’s five of them and they’re extremely tanky so keep bosses occupied for ages. Between that and picking up the rotten breath incantation it’s been quite a productive couple of days.

Came on yesterday evening, neither of you online so after a couple of promising co-op tries I decided to go for it. Twig equipped, bubble up, frost applied, maxed out armour for immunity, flesh immunity boost eaten. This fight was only going one way! Died within 10 seconds of entry, didn’t even get one hit in as I tried to rush round the side to get to the sorcerer

Went back to Radhan. Tried solo and two times got him reasonably comfortably down to second phase where he flies up in the air for a bit. Both times got one hit mullered on his re-entry. Then went opposite tactic and summoned two helpers. Both very good (as there was a decent number of choices for summon I picked the funkier looking ones and they are invariably better than, say samurais 😉). Survived drop and went on to win whilst frantically backing up. Result!

This has caused Ranni’s quest line to open up and I’m now following that up. Discover it was also me not going back to chat to Rodgier also 🤭

Edit: note the stupid boss battle with the three twats is for a sorcery I have no chance of ever being able to use, but it’s the damn principle of the thing now!

Last night I cleared the new area I found a couple of days ago. Two more bosses down, including a nasty two vs one fight. Had another few tries at the Fire Giant - getting further than before but I’m not quite there yet.

I’m 140 hours in now and I’m still regularly finding new places, enemies, gear, items and game mechanics. This is easily the best game I’ve ever played. It’s just incredible.

Spent a good chunk of yesterday exploring, also did Mimic Tear and odd Dragonrot thing. Then spent the evening Sunsbro’ing near Lucaria to build up my stocks of Rune Arcs. Finished off by activating Radhan rune.

Brave well this clearly wasn’t the reason I managed to get him … 😃. His “Surprise mother f*cker!” death from above was certainly still a one shot kill anyway. I haven’t seen the patch download and I did a manual check for update yesterday. Maybe it’s a server side?

Gone back to exploration progress on the Altus Plateau - went the back door route via Magma Wyrm and Abandoned Coffin Grace. Found a couple of caves which I rinsed (Unsightly Catacombs and Sage’s Cave) good loot in both. Latter had a two fog door boss combo and one was a really interesting fight. Did them both co-op to get the lay of the land, then solo’ed the easier one before waiting for a partner for the second one. No-one came so based on a hint “Try dog” thought I’d solo but summon my wolves … got in and summon not available 😮. I think because I had my furled finger active at the time? Panicked my way through it but managed to work out what the core to the fight was despite that and came out victorious. Boss was Black Knife Assassin Invisible git for a lot of the fight, but worked out the wet floor in the middle of the cave reveals their footprints so you can time attacks as they approach - very clever. You also get a talisman which gives you a similar ability when crouched which is awesome for sneaky stealth builds.

Yeah. I’ve done this a couple of times and ended up in strife. You need to deactivate it if you want to summon spirit ashes.

I continue to be stunned by the usefulness and quality of the loot in Elden Ring. Everything you find has some sort of meaningful use - dependent on build obviously. So any sort of exploration, side caves etc feels so rewarding and worth it because it keeps chucking nice options at you. Can really make you think about talisman combos going into a difficult boss fight for example.

Got Radahn down again on my second attempt with my lightning and hammer-wielding Thor build. He’s called Thor Candles (Two Ronnies reference 😉 ) and kicks ass now; I’ve got some great lightning incantations and have really focussed my stats in on doing a lot of damage with them and my hammer; and Radahn is a bit easier when you know the fight well enough and can do rot damage.

I highly recommend a second playthrough. Even with my 200 plus hour first run, I missed a lot of very cool stuff. And actually I’m aware that I’m still missing certain things. I’ll probably try to get everything done and seen via new game plus.

Talking of Radahn and things I missed… after the fight, if you exhaust the dialogue with the stripey master of ceremonies and rest at the grace, redmane castle becomes a proper level with enemies to beat and a totally different boss fight. I had no idea until my Thor Candles run through.

I’m getting through things a lot more quickly because I know what lies behind each corner now, but my enjoyment is just as high, and I’m still thinking of new and fun builds, because there are so many combat mechanics that I haven’t yet tried.

Brave What’s your build / gear like? I’m pushing faith with just enough strength to use blasphemous blade and using the dragon cult seal. I’ve got a bunch of different lightning spells but I mostly stick with lightning spear, it seems to be as effective as anything else I’ve got and it’s easy to use.

I’ve been getting little bits of play time after shift and took down Godrick the other day after a couple of attempts. Just wandering about just now, do have a nice ice axe thing that has a great ice stomp thingy. 8 days to go….

I’m currently doing Volcano Manor leaving the capital until after that. Just did the first interim boss in Volcano Manor and actually cheesed him - couldn’t resist. He’s in a church and checking stuff outside in a corner actually kicked off the fight. All the music went off and his health bar appeared. I wandered back to the entrance and it was a fog door with him giving it large inside somewhere. Then his belly appeared at the door and he chucked some spells at me. So I checked I could damage him when he stuck his belly through the fog and then found a good spot that was safe from his spells but kept him at the door and arrowed the bugger to death.

It doesn’t feel like a Souls game unless I cheese one of the bosses. 😃

This is my current setup. Plan is to stack up faith (and to a lesser extent, mind) to about 60 from this point forward. I’m strong enough to wield the hammer but honestly it’s mostly for show now as I’m normally hitting things with lightning spear and deleting less powerful groups with lightning strike, although I find that to be literally a bit hit or miss.

Lightning spear is super enjoyable though and I believe there’s a frost version to be found as well. Oh, also I have an Ash called Prayerful Strike on my hammer which is uninterruptible and heals almost all the damage I take while swinging the thing.

Maliketh down. After the initial attempt it felt like it was going to be a bit of a road block, but it only took 4 tries. The tree sentinel outside gave me more trouble. I hate those guys.

Brave That’s not too far from my build, except I only have 22 strength so I can use the blasphemous blade. Faith is at 50 currently. I think the soft cap is 55 so I’ll probably start pushing strength/endurance/mind after that.

I don’t bother with lightning strike, it’s too hit or miss as you say. Aside from lightning spear, I usually have blessing of the Erdtree to keep my HP ticking up, and I keep rotten breath if something is annoying me.

I’ve got a morning star with prayerful strike on it for any “try striking” situations. Also just finished levelling the coded sword. I’m not sure how good it is yet, but it has S scaling with faith, a fairly long range unblockable L2 attack, and it looks like a light sabre, so it can’t be all bad.

Also got this yesterday. Definitely gives me at least a 5% damage buff.

Gordon just realised I missed out the spiked Caestus, which I’ve got scaling with faith now via the Golden Vow skill. It buffs anyone within a certain radius, which is great for sunbro sessions immediately before going through the fog door.

Looks great when you run out of fp and just charge in with your fists and start wailing on a boss. 🙂

I’m glad I decided to switch this build into a Thor one, but I’m very definitely going to do a pure pugilist run as well. It’s far too much fun.
