Yeah I’m generally in the “never look back” school of thought with retro games but I must admit the virtua games give me a nostalgia hit.
While most look at 8 bit and 16 bit pixel art games all misty eyed; as a kid I saw the low poly 3D graphics of virtua as the way forward into the future of video games. Like an escape route from all the visually similar stuff we had back then.
It’s probably why I don’t like the vast majority of pixel art indie games now (they have to be pretty special to get over my dislike of the aesthetic) but I’m a total sucker for low poly indie stuff.
