They are likely using a new type of construction for their brake drums called phase change material, that they are able to use to control tyre temperature. This explains why the other cars are as fast as the McLaren in qualifying but in the races, especially at the ends of the stints, the McLaren just cruises away. The key thing with this is that it will not be an easy thing for the other teams to copy.
