Alex Maybe drink less coffee?
I had to give up coffee for most of the year due to a quite severe sleep issue which began as a side effect of acid reflux meds.
Quitting was difficult because it’s been part of my daily routine for thirty years, I love the taste and I genuinely enjoy getting very nerdy with making it; but mainly the headaches were the worst problem.
I solved that when I discovered Kombucha. It has a very negligible amount of caffeine in it but it seemed to be enough to fool my body. Headaches eased off dramatically and I was caffeine free within two weeks.
Once I’d done it though, my thinking was a lot clearer and I was a lot calmer this year than I’ve ever been, which was very handy for the academic stuff I’ve been doing.
All the health stuff is dealt with. Almost. I’m 99% of the way there with sleep. And managed to get back to drinking coffee this last couple of weeks with no issues at all, which makes me very happy. I might cut back a bit when term starts though, as I’ll need that clarity of thinking this term.
I do recommend it. I didn’t realise quite how it was affecting my relaxation.
Two further tips: I recommend Remedy Kombucha if you want to try it. They have genuinely nice flavours.
A lot of the other makes seem to be under the insane impression that turmeric is nice to drink. Believe me it is not and the people who invented that hate humanity. And fun.
Because I missed the ritual of making coffee I tried decaf. I discovered that good decaf tastes as nice as good normal coffee. If you miss the ritual of it or the taste, there are very good decaf options now.
