FFXIV seems to run nicely at 4K/60 now, it used to really chug at anything over 1440P

I know the PS5 is a few years old now but this all sounds like what the console should have been.

Jogort initially it was. As the generation has gone on then trying to keep up with PC expectations has meant compromises in either image quality/resolution or frame rate. Resolutions have been creeping downwards in order to have performance modes and the higher image quality has become a 30fps standard. The pro goes towards evening that out a bit, especially with PSSR allowing for a machine which raw power wise is only ₅₀% more powerful to do both good frame rates and good image quality.

DrDamn I dunno. I think the promise of ray tracing was pretty much smoke and mirrors from the beginning. Which led us down this terrible path of performance vs fidelity in the first place.

I’m really happy with it, aside from the whole “£700” bit 😂 Tried No Man’s Sky and Dragon’s Dogma 2 earlier and they both look and run significantly better than the not £700 versions.

It’s nice to have a new console which is actually in stock. Still mulling the idea of selling the X and the PS5 and getting a Pro. I’ll maybe wait for compensation day in the New Year. 🙂

I don’t think it’ll make a day and night difference now, but as we move towards the end of this generation I expect to see more games target 30 on the standard consoles and these days that feels like I’m wading through treacle.

Alex There’s already several games I’ve played where it makes a big difference. Horizon, FFVII Rebirth, Dragon’s Dogma 2, NMS, RE4 for a start. It’s actually a fair bit more noticeable than I was expecting in many cases.

Still getting the same issue as the ps5 where if I put it to sleep mode with the usb HDD for PS4 games plugged in, upon next wake it’ll need to scan/repair the HDD as not disconnected properly etc etc. Thought that might have been fixed.

Jogort I’ve got a USB drive with PS4 games on it and it works fine. Maybe something to do with specific drives?

Jogort what power setting do you leave it on? Do you keep power to the USB ports? There seems to be an option with a time limit there too.

Jogort I had something similar to that as well. When I was trying to transfer stuff across. I just gave up trying and redownloaded everything.

Gordon just a standard 2Tb HDD of the old school non solid state kind.

DrDamn Ah, that’s something I hadn’t looked at in ages, mines on 3 hours for usb. Will try always and test. Nice one.

DrDamn Nice one, this totally fixed it for me, it was set to 3 hours, now always on. Although I don’t see how it should cause issue especially if the HDD isn’t in use downloading an update etc, must be some way the software is still using the HDD in rest mode.

It is bloody lovely, number 2260 of 12300. I wasn’t gonna do it as like all I can’t stand ridiculous scalper profiteering, I didn’t pay super silly price but the credit card did take a beating, ach well I rarely use it anyway so thought why the hell not.
The eBay ad I got it from was open to offers so I went a bit lower and wouldn’t up my price and surprisingly it was accepted, still too bloody much but I had to have it along with my 20th anniversary edition….I have a problem 🤣
The controllers are lovely in the classic colour scheme as is the console itself. It’s gonna be used though, I’m not one for keeping stuff in boxes, all setup and continuing my blast through dragon age.
