Monster Hunter Wilds
Taken the day off and the wife is at work! Sometimes the stars do align! lol
My hunter ID is MV7AB6YF (case sensitive) still way to many different coop options… Capcom never make it easy.
H47887RQ. It’s definitely still way more complicated than it ought to be. Seems like the best plan is to get the story bit of the way first anyway.
Hunting horn has a song that counters incoming attacks. Monster attacks, you play a wee tune on your enormous saxophone and they get knocked on their arse. This is the best game ever.
I have to say though the default controls for the mount are truly awful and utterly bizarre. Fortunately there’s options to make it not suck but what were they thinking?
I think they’ve tired to make it overly newbie friendly and some of the things are a bit off. Sadly you always have to go through pages of settings to get to them

I’ve been playing it all day. For someone who was saying they were burnt out on the series not long ago, it’s got me right back into it.
Really enjoying it. My only gripe really is some of the combos (especially hammer in my case) don’t “flow” as well as previous games. But I’m also convinced that’s probably me complaining about not liking change as opposed to any actually valid reason.
I’ve played more with randoms today than I’ve ever done in an MH game. I know it’s still a bit clunky but that’s the cross play I think. The actual minute to minute, firing off a flare or answering someone else’s is very straightforward imo.
I’ve had a whale of a time so far.

Managed an hour or two last night with @Gordon
It was a bit of a faff to get set up but we have a squad lobby going now, which I think is permanently up. Once we were in it was actually pretty great. We could do our own thing and then whenever one of us started a mission the invite would automatically go out.
Not only that but if you were in a mission yourself at the time and needed to finish it, it would remind you, once you were done, to check your invitation list or whatever to join them. It was surprisingly slick once it was set up.
@r0wie I’ll figure out how to invite you in. You can be in multiple squads at once. So you can choose which lobby to be in via lobby search. I might not always be able to chat if I’m online but if we’re in the same lobby I can always drop in and help when needed
Edit:

You were right @Gordon it sounds weird now

I was looking through the hunter cards and saw the squad ID and made a request
I picked it up at the weekend but haven’t done anything other than watch the intro cinematics so far. I’m out tonight (going to see the two lead men from Gomez - they’re doing a tour playing at least one song from each album, should be fantastic for late-90, early-00s indie rocks fans ) but will sort out the online code wotsit and post it up here. Would be nice to make a vanishingly rare online appearance.

How to avoid Jin Dahaad’s unblockable AOE attack :
I finished the last story fight last night, with about 80 hours played on my save. Still got some optional quests to do and a few lances to craft so I’ll work on those next. Overall I had a great time with it. The actual hunts are fantastic, the weapon changes for the weapons I play have all been great, the new monster roster is varied and pretty big, and the game looks great and is frequently pretty spectacular.
Not a fan of the mount auto-pathing. I don’t feel like I know my way around any of maps as a result, and there’s no real incentive to learn. The story was fine but I could have done without quite so many cutscenes and long walk-and-talk sections. The pop-up camp stuff seems very underdeveloped. The few I did build were destroyed and I mostly just ignored it.
Overall, I’m very happy with it and looking forward to whatever they add next.
