I have been playing an awful lot of this. Itās very good indeed. The new āmodernā control scheme is amazing. Basically it removes all the motion-based inputs for special moves (things like dragon punch = forward, down, down/forward + punch, or fireball = down, down/forward, forward + punch). Instead of having to do those motions, you just press a direction + the āspecial moveā button. Thereās also no longer 3 punch and 3 kick buttons, itās reduced to light, medium and heavy attack plus the special move button.
What this means is that you no longer have to think about how to execute individual moves, so you can instead focus on which move to use and when, and youāre far less likely to mess up the input and do something else entirely. I was sceptical at first but Iām fully on board now. It makes SF6 into a game that can be comfortably played on a standard DualSense, and in fact a lot of the good players are saying pad is better than a stick, even using the classic control scheme.
There is a downside to the modern scheme - as a penalty for being able to access moves more easily and faster, thereās a 20% damage reduction compared to using classic controls. Each character also loses access to some moves in the change from 6 to 3 main attack buttons, and you canāt choose between light/medium/heavy variations of special moves when using the modern shortcut, you get whichever variation Capcom decided on when they designed the moves.
I have no doubt that a good player will do better using classic over modern, but for me itās perfect and makes the game so much more relaxing to play. Another bonus is that the very existence of modern controls really offends some SF āpuristsā - thereās an āMā or āCā icon over your health bar so itās very obvious who is using which scheme. Iāve even seen them described as āwokeā controls which has guaranteed that Iāll use them for as long as theyāre available.
