Brave I’ve seen a lot of comments about the sweet spot being pretty small. Hopefully just something that’ll take some figuring out.

DrDamn I’m downloading it now. And if DPD Steven ever gets here with my headset, I might even get to play it.

Looks like quite a nice visual upgrade, although it’s been a while since I’ve played NMS so maybe that already happened.

Played a little bit more. GT is great in vr, I could only do the annoying music mode as it’s still downloading, but it was crisp, and I could really pick my braking points and hit the apexes much easier than on flat screen. That’s as expected, any of us who’ve experienced racing games on PCVR will already be aware just how big the difference is.

I only used controller and it worked well enough.

Word of warning. If you’ve never experienced it before, brace yourself for the first braking point. That’s the likely moment when your VR legs will give way. I didn’t feel too bad even though I have raced for months. That might be because I wasn’t physically stamping on a pedal and expecting to lurch forwards though.

Also Klingon Wipeout Thumper is amazing with the headset and controller feedback.

Brave Mine arrived not long ago. Just had time to set the controllers charging and try the headset on, and now I need to leave to pick up the kids, and then it’ll be teatime, and then bedtime stories, so I might get to actually play something around 9pm which will give me roughly 30 minutes before I fall asleep.

I also have a giant brain and therefore giant head. It’s definitely a bit snug on first try but I’ve not adjusted it at all yet.

Nothing happened when I pressed the power button. Eventually noticed that there’s a USB C connection between the headband and the headset itself that was disconnected. Plugged that back in and it all worked. Is that supposed to happen? I skimmed the manual (afterwards obvs) and saw no mention of it.

Gordon Plugged that back in and it all worked. Is that supposed to happen?

Didn’t happen for me. Want even aware of a second port :/

Brave Yeah, I didn’t think so. The port is hidden, doesn’t seem like something intended to be connected and disconnected.

This is interesting (to me at least) played a bit more GT. I’ve learnt to expect a little bit of stomach churn when I get back to sim racing in vr exactly because of this scenario. I’m not getting any of that with a controller.

It must be because the input is different surely? It’s not triggering the simulation sickness effect.

DPD wouldn’t leave mine with a neighbour even though I told him he could through the Ring bell ☹️ More than his job’s worth apparently.

        Anyway, re-arranged for Monday delivery.

I think I’m with @Brave, it’s very impressive but also just a bit disappointing. The screen is great but only once you’ve dialled in the settings and got the headset fitted in exactly the right place. I feel like it’s not as comfortable and the first headset, although I expect that’ll improve as it gets broken in a bit and I get used to how best to put it on. There’s a bit more screen door effect than I was expecting. But, once it’s set up correctly, it does look great. Lovely and bright, colours are great, and black is actually black, not fuzzy grey. The setup process for IPD, eye tracking and play area is all very well done.

I tried GT7 first, fully expecting to have to nope out after one lap, but it was actually very comfortable and I didn’t have any nausea at all. Visually it’s a huge leap from PSVR and exactly what I was hoping it would be.

After that I spent about 90 minutes just dipping into a few other games. Horizon looks incredible. As with GT7, I was expecting problems with nausea here, but again, it was fine. No issues with climbing or the smooth “walking” (aside from being able to hear Beth pissing herself laughing at me waving my arms back and forth). It was more fun than I expected from the reviews, which was a nice surprise.

What The Bat seems like it’ll be a good laugh. Last Clockwinder seems interesting too. No Man’s Sky looks great and it seems like they’ve done a lot of work on the VR controls, looking forward to giving that a proper try. The only game that gave me any problems was Kayak, oddly enough. I had to quit after 5 minutes as it was starting to make me ill. I’ll revisit it again later and mess with the comfort settings.

I’m going to give the demo of Song in the Smoke a try today and see how I cope with smooth locomotion there. If it’s ok, I’ll probably pick up one of the co-op games (is Light Brigade co-op?)

          Gordon (is Light Brigade co-op?)

Nah. Would be great if it was but I don’t think so. You can see where other people die but that’s it.

Gordon There’s a bit more screen door effect than I was expecting

I was a bit shocked by this given the media reviews. I’d hoped it was just me.

Brave You can lessen the effect by hitting the sweet spot but it’s still there. It seems like we’re still years away from screens with a high enough DPI to get around the effect. It’s not the end of the world, but definitely the most disappointing aspect for me.

I hopped on for a bit at lunchtime. Saw some suggestions to adjust the scope slightly lower than you’d expect, and it did seem to make a difference in terms of clarity. Had a quick blast on GT7 and Rez and they looked fantastic. I also tried Pistol Whip for the first time - it’s rather good 😃

Some settings tips, maybe something useful if you’ve not done them before, mine is arriving today 🤩

Saw someone saying that Demeo looks noticeably better than a lot of the other launch titles, so I decided to give it a go, and it really does look great. It’s sort of a digital table-top RPG/board game. Everything looks bright, colourful, detailed and sharp, even right up close. It’s one of the best looking VR games I’ve seen. The game itself seems like a lot of fun too. Reminds me a bit of HeroQuest, and it has online multiplayer. I think it works in flat mode too.

Played a few games at lunchtime :

Synth Riders - I think I like it even more than Beat Saber. It also looks great, a lot of super bright colours against a dark background and super-cheesy dance music. Fortunately I remembered to draw the curtains before I started as it sort of forces you to dance with the way the markers you have to hit are laid out, and nobody needs to see that.

Puzzling Places - another very pleasant surprise. VR 3D jigsaw puzzles. Also looks surprisingly lovely.

Finally, I gave Thumper a go, and remembered how great it is. Another one that really benefits from the new display.

I’m feeling a lot happier with the headset now after the somewhat muted initial impressions. Next thing I need to figure out is a decent replacement for the earbuds. I’ve got a set of Arctis 7S headphones, and they more or less fit with the headset on at the same time but it’s not what I’d call comfortable.

I saw that you were playing Demeo and hadn’t heard of it so gave it a nosey. Certainly looks like something I could spend some time on. I’ll have to go look at Synth Riders now as we loved Beat Saber but that’s not out yet for PSVR2.

Gordon Finally, I gave Thumper a go, and remembered how great it is. Another one that really benefits from the new display.

Thumper is the best Klingon rhythm action game ever made. It’s phenomenal.

Jogort I’ve only played half an hour or so but it makes a great first impression.

I only picked up Synth Riders because we also love Beat Saber, but I’m really glad I did, it’s loads of fun. It’s different enough from BS that I don’t mind having both. Also a great test for the controller tracking and it was totally solid as far as I could tell.
