It’s a bit of a trigger for me to be honest as the theft involved in gen AI “art” is wholesale and on such a scale it’s horrifying to me. I find it quite upsetting when I see people passing off AI work as photography for example. And more so when they clearly just entered an artists name and said make work like that.
I’ve thought for a long time that there’s a genuine hate in the tech industry for the creative industry. Project Gutenberg being the first clue. This is the end game of all that sadly.
Honestly this thread is the perfect place for it as the language used by its supporters is often near identical. People who don’t want it are too stupid to understand it sort of thing. Usual techbro snake oil.
The great irony of it all is that the one area where I’m using it is to bypass the ad ridden SEO nightmare that a lot of sites are these days. See any recipe website ever made.
My rule these days is, if you make me scroll past ten ads and your life story to find out how to scramble eggs, or what time f1 is on then I’m going to perplexity or chat gpt to get the answer.
I don’t mind making money off your work. That’s an essential to me. But the marketing industry has rendered every communication medium invented near useless. I rarely answer phone calls. I delete most of my emails. They’re using AI to ruin all of these things and make the internet a useless source of non information. So I’m going to use AI to try and sift it when it’s problematic.
The silver lining is that the next generation seems to be going back to trusted sources of information and definitely are getting their news from multiple sources and being very skeptical about what they see.
The danger in that sense at least is the oldest generation for whom things have changed so rapidly and so vastly they simply can’t even be expected to keep up.
