Finished Burning Shores there. It’s a solid chunk of Horzion, that said it mainly just served to bring a lot of my frustrations with the main game into focus. The movement and platforming is still so clumsy and the combat is lacking compared to the first game. I find myself shouting at the TV a lot while playing it. I know it’s an expansion but I couldn’t help feel they could have done more to smooth over some of the main game’s ample cracks.
I think as well it doesn’t make much usage of its setting. You’d be hard pushed to tell it was taking place in LA most of the time. There’s nothing here you won’t have seen before in the main game more or less.
The best bit about it is the new main character it introduces who is good fun and provides a decent foil to Aloy. That said there is a plot development late in the game that I found came quite out of left field and felt a bit incongruous with the rest of their relationship.
Anyway as I said a decent slab of more Horizon if you’ve finished the main quest and are looking for something else. It also sets up the story for the third game too, which may be of interest to some. I wonder how they are going to write Lance Reddick out of it.
