One of the hinges on my laptop has failed, so it’s been collected today to go for repair. Thankfully I was able to squeeze in Week 12’s SCCA Series race at Daytona last night, which has given me the 4 MPR races I needed to get into C Class.
In Split 2 (there was only 3 splits) I qualified P2. If I had delivered on my practice times I would have easily been on pole, but I do tend to be a little reserved in qualifying. It doesn’t help that this car is an absolute menace. There’s a couple of corners at Daytona where the brakes seem to behave completely differently to the others, in that you lock them and potentially spin.
I was caught out with the banking at the start and dropped a few positions, so the first few laps are half-decent watching as I try and pick my way back through the field. Also, definitely feeling a bit of survivors guilt having punted poor Joseph on Lap 1 - a victim of my rusty race craft. Doesn’t help that I won the race either, but I think I had the pace anyway.
I’ve really enjoyed jumping back into iRacing. The costs involved have always been a difficult pill to swallow for me, but games like ACC have gotten a little stale now, and given the state of the games being released (or not) on XSX, I’m not forking out for a new game on a monthly or bi-monthly basis, so I’m finding justification to dip my feet into the pricey iRacing arena. I really like the variety of cars and tracks on offer, even this Ford Spec Racer, which is a bit of a bitch to handle, has been great fun trying to understand it and learn how to manage braking. As I’ve jumped from one free series to another it’s been a case of trying to get a solid handle on broadly different cars, which has been more enjoyable than where I’m at with ACC, which is basically trying to master the same GT3 car at certain tracks, nail every line, apex, braking point for the tiniest of lap time.
I’ve managed to reach my goal of obtaining C Class in readiness for the next season. I have £100 birthday money burning a hole in my pocket and I’m ready to commit it to iRacing. When do we expect to see the next season details? Hopefully my laptop will be fixed and returned in time!
