Did my first F3 race at Zolder. Honestly, could have been worse could have been better. I qualified third, surprisingly, then got into second at the start. I had decent pace but then realised I’d under-fuelled my car. I’d checked the fuel during practice and thought I had enough.
Anyway, decided I’d do a splash and dash early doors then drive the rest of the race in peace. However, the fuel input in the menu defaults to 45 litres and I only wanted 5, so I had to spend ages hitting the down arrow in the menu, over and over. Every time I was on a straight, which there aren’t many of in Zolder, I was spamming away, which took my attention away from the road.
Anyway, distracted I made a mistake at the chicane and took off my front wing. I made it back to the pits OK and got repaired/refuelled before coming out in about 18th. I made it up to 16th with only one other mistake, a spin that added a few incident points.
Anyway, a not great first race, but also some positives to take away. Next time I’ll need to fuel my car properly. I was happy with my consistency, especially around Zolder which I think can be a tricky track, especially looking at the number of cars I saw make mistakes while I was driving.
It’s that bloody chicane though, so tricky.
Also this is the first time I’ve found something like Crew Chief might be useful.
