Gordon I did notice at various points there were small red arrows around my car pointing in various directions. No idea what they were though, since the game makes absolutely no effort at all to explain itself and you can’t move the camera to look in the direction the arrow is pointing anyway, so they’re pretty useless.
On that topic, one thing that has grown to confuse me more and more thinking about it since we played - the idea of putting the dodge / speed boost things on the left stick… why? They don’t appear to need to be analogue at all - there’s no notion that you can dodge in a particular direction, it’s just left or right, and the speed boost is a trigger action. There is literally no benefit to putting them there at all as far as I can see, and to do so they sacrifice an action (control the camera by moving the left stick) which is pretty much muscle memory for every gamer out there.
The only thing I can think of is they can’t get a controllable camera that works without massive clipping and such issues. So they dropped that and put stuff on the left stick to mke it appear like they just decided to do something else instead.
The end result though is you spend half the time being hit by things you literally weren’t able to see coming and you have almost zero situational awareness in a game that seems to me pretty much relies on knowing where you are relative to your team and opponents at any given time.
It’s just… no, don’t do it that way. make it work properly.
This thing was planned to be a launch title, and it comes out three months later and it still just feels really unfinished and rushed. It’s weird.
