So I’m torn about this.
The whole facebook account thing is almost certainly going to mean that I not only say no to this, but in two years time when they force it on existing Rift S owners I’ll probably get rid of mine.
BUT
This thing has a better resolution than a Valve Index at nearly 2K per eye; it’s both standalone and able to act as a PCVR headset; it has amazing hand tracking. And the real kicker? It’s under £300. Standalone performance ( it’s a new dedicated VR chip in there, which is reportedly pretty groundbreaking) that rivals PC, with some very interesting Oasis like features in the offing at that price has me genuinely torn. Wireless VR at an affordable price is a real turning point for VR.
With Sony sitting on their hands right now with PSVR 2, I have a horrible feeling that Facebook/Oculus are about to become the only game in town. If that’s the case, they may well have me over a barrel here. There’s no escaping the bastards anyway with their shadow accounts and all that.
