So, No Man’s Sky…
However ‘hosts’ the game saves the game. And that person needs to be online for anyone to ‘do’ anything in their save, although you can do your own thing in terms of building your own base or buying ships or earning money etc. etc. without that. So if we’re going to have a ‘persistent world’ we need someone who can be online pretty frequently. I can probably fulfil that, if people are happy for me to do so. I can be on most evenings if needed.
The host can set their game to friends only, and can give friends the permission to add bits to the base and modify the terrain round the base, and also separately the permission to remove those things. You can also set team damage to on or off, which would not be advisable if we’re going to raid a derelict freighter, they can get quite.. frantic and NMS is NOT a first person shooter..
Network options
In terms of friend groups, if you look on the right of that grab you can see ‘Show No Mans Sky friend list’. Your NMS friend list includes everyone you are friends with on the platform you’re playing, plus there is distinct NMS specific friends list
Friends list
As you can see at the bottom, there’s an option to "Show My No Man’s Sky Friend Code’. This appears to be pretty similar to the Nintendo way of doing things - you can add a friend on another platform if you have their friend code. I suspect Friend codes are specific for each account you have - if you have a PSN account and an XBL account, I very much expect they’ll have different friend codes. By the looks of things, you’ll be able to tell which platform someone is on by an icon next to their name.
If someone wants to try this, this is my NMS friend code for my PSN account. Not sure if it’ll work if you’re ALSO on PSN but worth a try…
