At work we recently got upgraded to these 40″ ultrawides. While I’m not convinced it’s better than the three monitors we had before, I have gotten used to having lot of screen space.
I felt like upgrading my old Dell 27″ monitor at home, so I bought an 32″ LG UltraGear IPS panel. I decided not to go for OLED due to burn in issues (which I hear is less of an issue these days), but mainly for text clarity, which seemed to be an issue in every review of an OLED I read.
Although I do some gaming on the screen, I mainly use it for programming (or babysitting Claude, which is what I do these days 😂), so having good clean text is a must have for me.
I got the new monitor last weekend and immediately using it I felt nauseous and had really bad eye strain. I’ve just spent this whole week with a headache from it. I’ve tried every single setting, every brightness/contrast mode, turned every feature on and off, but it’s still just really bad.
Last night I went back to my trusty old Dell and it was like giving my eyes a lovely warm bath. It was just so comfortable and such a relief.
I’ve used tonnes of monitors in my life and I’ve never had an issue like this. I hear that some people have reactions to IPS screens, but I’m pretty sure the ones we use at work are IPS as well.
Sadly, I’m going to have to return it.
