Haha and that is just a wee totie thing. The beams on the front of the ship are currently being upgraded to lift 60,000 ton 🤯

Gordon Good question, I knew it was something ridiculous but had to Google it.

The Pioneering Spirit has a gross tonnage of 403,342 tonnes, making it the heaviest vehicle ever made.

It was just me of those weird things that jumped into my head. Clearly the PS should on paper win hands down, but then Sleipnir gets those legs settled and that changes everything…….

MadAndy Haha yeah I believe they didn’t get along too well for a long time, both elderly now, the brother (Edward) that started Allseas is now retired, his son is now in charge. Both are still fully family owned, no share holders and make silly money.
As for Sleipnir, those “legs” don’t set down on the seabed, it can ballast down to become more stable like we do with the PS but it’ll never touch the bottom, it’s basically the same as a semi-submersible drill rig, has it’s own thrusters and sails across oceans un-aided, occasionally getting tugs to move it through tricky shallows or into berths etc.

MadAndy Yeah a lot of the wind turbine installers are ships with legs (jack-ups), and they’ll set them on the seabed. Better for shallow water where there’s high currents so the ship DP system isn’t having to work as hard.
The semi submersible style drillers are designed for dynamic positioning via thrusters to allow drilling in ultra deep water.

So the exhibition is finally up. Mine is the colour work. Might be worth watching on instagram as it seems like it’s getting a bit squished here.

It’s been a bloody hard four months pulling this together. And the last couple of days have been brutal. The gallery is run by well meaning community minded folk who are lovely, but the hanging system is a bloody nightmare. So we overran into the first half of today, as we needed extra time to level things out and get the text on the walls etc. I’m invigilating the space this afternoon and honestly, sitting in a quiet room looking at a wall has never appealed so much.

I’ve driven to Kingussie from my home 100 miles away twice in the last two days. In about 30 minutes I’ll head out and try and find out where the hell my Airbnb is 😉

I’ll probably spend some time getting proper detail shots in a couple of days when I’m invigilating the whole day. We’re mostly just taking turns doing either mornings or afternoons.

Airbnb: Yeah. I’m currently trying to achieve the perfect temperature in Aviemore, ski capital of the UK, with storage heaters, which were set to 15 feckin degrees when I got in.

I’ll have reached equilibrium by Friday I think.

When Rachel comes up in a couple of days, she’s going to set these fuckers to 26 degrees, I just know it, and I’m going to melt a couple of days later.

A shame it only ran for a few days, would have been a nice visit for a blast on the bike, not home until next week. Looks great though and would love to see some closer shots

I’m up super early today to get in to the gallery and take it all down. Been a mad week. Private view was great on Saturday.
