This is currently in early access in the Steam store; it was due to release at the end of March I believe, but with the way things are right now, they’ve gone this route so that they can get it right. I think it’s something like 40% off the full price when it launches for real right now.
I took a punt on it because I’d heard good things about the first game plus they switched to the Madness engine. I like a lot about that engine, but when I tried it recently in PC2 I felt like it was just a bit too twitchy for my liking. Which has been confirmed by finally trying the sublime rFactor 2 handling model.
So I kind of hoped that what I would get is an enhanced PC2 (visually) with the handling from AMS ( or at least closer to Factor 2 and further away from Project Cars). It turns out that with every passing update, and they’re very frequent at the moment, that that’s exactly what I’m getting. I tried this car a few days ago, and was fairly disappointed as it felt a little overly twitchy, but they’re updating each car individually to feel more like AMS and this was one of the ones that got the update yesterday.
It feels really good now.
Here’s my fastest lap around Donington.
And here’s a short 6 lap race. I put it on 60x time progression to see the day/night cycle. This was another thing that got an update. The first time I tried this, I discovered to my horror that they hadn’t implemented headlights in the Ultimas yet. They’ve done that with the latest update though, so it’s race-able. It looks good too. \o/
