Frustrating yet ultimately useful couple of hours on this last night. Turns out that I hadn’t set a time on Motegi, it was the San Marino track. 😃 So not a bug in the game, just one in my memory. Anyway, I set out to get a time in and then improve it.
Turn out that only the first part of that aim was achieved.
It took me the best part of a two hours to actually set any kind of time at all. I was really struggling, especially with turn two. What I’ve learned is (and this, of course, may not be true) that cornering in this is very dependent on not going too fast (obvs) but also not going too slow. Stray too far either side and you won’t make it through the corner without going off track (or what the game considers off track).
One adjustment I did make (that I probably should have tried earlier but it scared me) was to move to right stick acceleration and braking. That took some getting used to but I think it’s helping with getting the right speed through the corners. I’m considering turning the brake assist back on for a bit to help but not sure if it’s better to power through with it off because, ultimately, I don’t want to rely on it.
Final point, I’m writing this after sleeping on it. Had I written it last night, there’d have been a lot more swearing.
