GassyHaggis I have tried to get out of the habit of switching down a gear to rotate the car, apparently it’s an anti-pattern. Apparently while it might seem faster really it’s a sign that you’re probably not taking the right line or braking properly to begin with.
One thing iRacing has forced me to master is trail braking and it’s something I’m much better at now. To brake and turn in like the fastest guys you have to use it. If you trail brake properly you can use that to rotate the car and you don’t need to change down. This is also a benefit when driving a car that has a rev limit on downshifts (like the BMW GT4), there you can’t use the downshift for rotation so you need to do it differently.
In terms of getting comfortable with a car that’s sliding I suggest playing some Dirt Rally 2.0 if you haven’t (I forget), there the car is always sliding so it’s a good opportunity to get used to it. I find I’m comfortable with the car sliding more than others often are and I do wonder if it’s a result of my time playing rally sims.
