Delight at Monza was quickly followed by disappointment at Spa. One of the championship contenders wasn’t able to do the usual Tuesday slot so the group agreed to hold it two days after Monza.
As a result, I didn’t have a lot of time to practice and whilst I did have pace (qualified 2nd) I was still finding my best lines / setup particularly for the middle sector. The race started well, after eau rouge I slipstreamed 1st place down Kenmel Straight, pulled alongside them on the outside ready for Les Combes and out-braked them into 1st. For the next lap or two I led fairly comfortably but this car was right on the edge.
I had one warning at Pouhon where the rear tried to overtake the front but I managed to save it at the cost of two places. Then at eau rouge on the following lap the rear tried to step out again, I tried to catch it which created a ‘tankslapper’ moment and I hit the wall - hard!
Race over 🥺
That league has finished now and there are no plans for a similar Tuesday schedule so I’ve had to look elsewhere. Fortunately there are a few around and I’ve found one running on Thursdays at 8pm which is ideal with my family life. It’s already two rounds in but I doubt I’d be in contention anyway. I’m more interested in clean races with competent people to gain experience.
