XBox One Dashboard

My home dashboard layout on X1 has changed somehow. The menu options (store, gamepass, community etc) are now displayed vertically down the left hand side rather than tabs, accessed via bumper buttons, along the top.

I must’ve accidentally hit a button or activated a bug. My initial thoughts, with which I haven’t yet experimented, was that I’ve added something to my home page, which has made the list too large to display horizontally… Any ideas? I cannot seem to find anything on t’internet.

Gammerz This is the new dash, they’ve been very slowly rolling it out. Takes a little getting used to.

Yeah. We were griping about this again during recording last night. Inconsistency is a cardinal sin of UX design and the Xbox UI seems to regularly be updated to be inconsistent with itself (or at least it’s previous versions).

I’ve had it for a good long while now and I’m still having trouble navigating it. I guess if I knuckled down and used it every night I’d get used to it.

Thanks for the info. This happened mid-session iirc (unless I didn’t notice it initially on boot). There was no system update, download or restart - it seemed completely stealthy with no announcement whatsoever. I was thinking that maybe I’d accidentally opted in for the insider program, but you need to run the app for that.

What power mode do you have your XBox on. Does it do updates whilst “sleeping”.

Alternatively the Dash could well be controlled like a webpage - obviously a number of elements like the adds are pulled in live, not that big a step for the layout and control to be done this way too.

I usually turn off my Xbox when not in use. I was uploading some vids in standby mode last night.

Ah ha! Probably downloaded, installed, stole all your personal details and took out high interest loans and credit cards in your name whilst you slept.

MS have done it again: tinkering with the Dashboard and made it worse. The Community option is now littered with unwanted Clubs and official posts, instead of the majority of the screen taken up by friends’ shares, so now we scrolls sideways instead of downwards to view the list.

The store now looks “different”. They’ve tagged the games by category but the really useful option to search by category seems to have disappeared! Anyone know where they’ve hidden it?

Hmm will have to take a look later. The store was refreshed a month or so ago I think. I don’t tend to search for much though.
