It really is pretty great imo.
I’m even beginning to love the extremely hammy writing and acting. John DiMaggio, in particular, is fabulously moohaha. It’s like living a Japanese panto.
I’m pretty solid on the combat and upgrade system now. I actually think this is a great compromise between traditional FF combat ( I believe there’s a “traditional” control system) and FFXV which I actually thought was pretty great as well. It does break your brain for a while though as you get in to the flow of real-time combat and then instantaneously stop it and start selecting potions and spells and abilities etc.
My only gripe really is that this is set entirely in midgar* I believe, and there was something magical about getting out of the city in the original. I know that’s probably coming in the next episode or whatever it is, but the city is pretty oppressive to spend the whole game in.
*And yes, I do realise I thought it was great to explore midgar more in depth. It’s just that I know I probably won’t get that magical feeling of setting off out into the world that happened in the original.
