I get it but, I mean, if youāre expecting Nintendo, of all the platform holders to announce nothing but entirely new IP then youāre barking up the wrong Delfino Oak Tree.
In general a ninty sequel will bring a new experience. Yes the same characters, but imo, the sequels that donāt bring something new to the table are fairly rare. Kirby, Strikers, and Sports all look like theyāre going to do exactly that.
Iād love to see a new Mario Kart, but 48 tracks brings more than a gameās worth of new content so IMO itās not particularly egregious. And there is an argument that Mario Kart, is so recognisably Mario Kart from one iteration to the next that itās effectively the same game (I do realise this sends a hand grenade into my previous argument). Iām not sure itās going to be that easy to refresh MK and still be as great as 8 still is. And, annoyingly, people are still buying it in huge numbers.
As for the remakes, as long as theyāre remakes and not just slightly less muddy versions, I think Demonās Souls showed that theyāre not inherently bad. The Front Mission one looks really good and Iām happy as it gives me an āinā to a series Iāve been curious about for years. Advance Wars, I just love those games so updating it for the switch makes me smile.
And Portal, yeah I guess, itās old. But it still stands the test of time and I think itās easy to forget who theyāre targeting. Forgetting the fact that Iām going to get it day one anyway because Portal is one of the GOATs, if Lily was younger and I hadnāt yet completed her nerd training, then Iād be gifting that bundle to her day one, because it would blow her tiny mind and sell her on gaming forever.
I know this because I did it and she is the queen nerd. BUT weāve been lucky enough to have a PC to do that. This opens up not just Portal, but Valve (who are about to launch their own handheld donāt forget) to a much larger and younger audience and advertise themselves as a mainstream platform making great games, with a console of their own being sold at console prices. Itās an amazing advert.
Itās the fact that Valve are looking outwards again thatās the massive thing here. And coop Portal, with two switches sitting on the sofa. Thatās going to be so much fun. š
