I bought this a couple of weeks ago and finished it today. My parents were too poor for things like Game Boys, but my best pal had it and we played it to absolute death. I never finished it though, which was something I wanted to do. Unlike RE2 Remake this one sticks very close to the original game, except with hugely updated visuals. It still stands the test of time and was a very fun and hugely nostalgic experience to play.
That said, you will need to cheat a few times, as some of the puzzles are so random you would never figure them out. I’m thinking of the route to the animal village in particular. I don’t know how long you would have to randomly fuck about until you figured that out. Also it has that thing that when pumping up the difficulty it doesn’t make things harder, just more annoying. The second to last dungeon was a pretty tiresome experience in trial and error.
Still, it’s a very fun game, and its surprising how much of its works just as it did twenty five years ago. It would be cool if they gave the same treatment to Link to the Past now! Word of warning, the performance is absolutely dogshite. That was one big issue it had. Apparently it runs at 60 FPS (according to DF) but it rarely feels like it. They would have been much better to target a locked 30fps rather than a madly fluctuating 60. It really feels choppy and frankly you’d expect better from a 1st party Ninty game.
