Knowing what I know now, if I was to buy just one platform that’s available at this moment, it would be Steam Deck. Without a doubt. And Steam just announced that their production has accelerated even more so they’re bringing Q4 orders into Q3 and orders are accelerating too. Their order numbers are actually at their highest volume since the pre-orders went live.
If Sony don’t watch out (and I think they’re in the arrogant part of the arrogant/humble cycle of the console wars, so are genuinely not watching out right now) they’re going to find themselves being squeezed by MS on one side and Valve on the other.
For example, I’m actually staying my enthusiasm for PSVR2 because I’m very aware that the signs point to Valve releasing Deckard soon(VR stand alone Steam Deck basically) and I simply don’t trust Sony under its current leadership. Before Jim took the helm I’d have been day 1 and counting the days. If I’m doing that, as a predominantly Sony gamers for so long, then I think they have some trouble brewing. It won’t finish them, because their launch has been so strong, but I think they’ll have to do another Jim-special u-turn down the line.
