Jonbwfc I sat down for a proper go at Sackboy last night. I played through the two stages you mentioned and past the first boss. You’re right, it is absolutely wonderful. I never would have guessed Sackboy would be in the running for soundtrack of the year, but here we are.

Had my first scare with the ps5 last night, playing Miles Morales while usb drive plugged in updating some PS4 games. System just shutdown. Wouldn’t respond to ps button and eventually came on with power button and had the repairing HDD screen on when it did. While doing the HDD repair etc it appeared to finish but just stayed on a blank screen, hitting the ps button just give me the no symbol and nothing else.
Had to hard reboot it and came on with failure in software on last boot….😱
Never had any issues without the PS4 HDD plugged in, maybe just coincidence, we’ll see.

Jogort I’ve stuck with just the internal drive for now. I have an external with all my PS4 games on but I’m not plugging it in until a firmware or two hit.

Only issue I’ve had so far is DS not starting up. A shutdown and start resolved that. I’ve also been careful about shutting down games and only occasional use of rest mode.

This may well already be known about but worth reiterating anyway.

In Saved Data and Game/App Settings there’s a whole section devoted to tweaking spoiler warnings. You can set it to either spoilers identified by the developer or anything you’ve not seen yet, which is brilliant. I only discovered it by messing around with the interface of one of the videos I’d posted on the ps5 message group so there’s a chance someone will have missed it.

I think @Alex also posted about this area of the settings too because it has specific presets for games. I.e. those of you who need inverted controls.

DrDamn if it’s for DS then rest mode shouldn’t be needed tbh. It saves every minute or so iirc, as do most souls games (so you can’t quit and try again).

I’m just avoiding it entirely until I know it’s safe. And yeah, no external drives of any kind for a good long while

DrDamn yeah I think I’m gonna leave the usb HDD with PS4 games out for now and eject it if I’m fine playing PS4 games.

I have had one ‘pull the power plug’ lockup so far, which is recovered from OK after a drive check, and a couple of game crashes. Generally speaking I do a reboot after a game crash just in case it’s actually left it in a wonky state you can’t immediately see.

There’s a firmware update out this morning. I’ve installed it and nothing has exploded yet.

Mine had a moment on the first day with an external drive which I mentioned at the time. I did try another drive yesterday and it was fine but it still didn’t like the first one even though PS4 uses it.

I’m staying clear using them on PS5 for a while just to be safe.

I’ve been using rest mode and an external drive since I got it. No problems at all as of yet. Dirt 5 has crashed a couple of times but I’m pretty sure that’s down to the game being buggy, not the OS.

Gordon I think it’s definitely down to the games in most instances of the rest mode issues, as Miles Morales just got patched to fix its own rest mode problem.

I’m just not comfortable with it because I don’t know what other games are having issues (although I do know
MM wasn’t the only culprit) and if I buy a new game it feels 50/50 at the moment whether that would also run into problems.

Just a quick PSA - if it’s a game that’s ‘cross gen’, click ‘option’ on the icon and go to ‘game version’ and it will tell you whether you’re running the PS5 or PS4 version and I think let you swap between the two if you have both installed (although I don’t know why you would have…)

Jonbwfc I think the only reason right now is NMS. If you want to play VR you have to use the PS4 version. Which is just daft imo.

Go to ‘home’
go across to the game (say No Man’s Sky)
Click the option button (three horizontal lines right of touchpad)
bottom option says ‘Game Version’
select that. It shoud pop up a list of what versions you have available.

Gah, for some reason you can’t screen record this, and the screenshot doesn’t show the submenu. Here’s a phone pic…

Ok thanks. I still don’t see it, maybe it only appears when there are multiple versions to show.

Alex it does seem to be context sensitive like that. For instance, patch notes don’t seem to have a section in the options menu until the dev actually adds a note.

At least that’s what I think is happening. I’ve only seen the section so far in PS4 games that have been updated. I’m assuming they won’t have made that a PS4 only feature.

Brave I don’t think they are - NMS got an update on PS5 today but there’s no patch note section in that menu. Not that their patch notes on PS4 ever said much but still…

Jonbwfc I don’t have a link but I’m pretty sure I read that patch/update notes are only available for PS4 games. I really hope they’ll be added for PS5, it’s a very useful feature.

I just found out about the PS+ Collection on PS5. Basically, if you have PS+ then on PS5 you get access to the following games for free:

This is very good if you don’t have a previous PS4 collection to play, some of the absolutely best games of last gen on there. Also something I didn’t know about.

Alex I’d love to get confirmation that list will grow and update as the generation goes on. There are some notable omissions (more recent PS Studios games and HZD for example). Jim Ryan has hinted at some sort of GamePass alternative on PS5 and maybe this is the basis?
