Yeah, if we’re going all the way back to 2010 then there’s a lot of stuff. There’s just so many games to choose from. A few off the top of my head. I might list them now and then try and come back and fill in some flavour later.
- The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (best game this gen)
- The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
- Far Cry 3 (possibly the most influential game of the decade)
- The Last of Us
- Spec Ops: The Line
- Mass Effect 2 (one of my top games ever)
- The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings (almost forgot it was this decade)
- The Last Guardian (always think of Christian Donlan’s “getting a cat down from the top of the wardrobe simulator”. I adored it)
- Dirt Rally (this was a big one for me and probably my most played game after Witcher 3)
- Assetto Corsa (best sim physics ever)
- F1 20** (all the F1 love)
- Bioshock Infinite (I loved it and the story)
- Red Dead Redemption (2010 counts as this decade right?)
- GTAV
- Deus Ex: Human Revolution (a new DX game and it was brilliant!)
- Dishonored 2 (the spirit of Thief born anew)
- Portal 2 (shit this is on the list! A decade is too long a time!)
- Batman : Arkham City
- XCOM 2 (amazing hard strategy)
- Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag (brilliant pirate sim with a whole carribean to explore and awful accents to cringe at)
OK - that was 20 games, and I feel like I’ve only scratched the surface. A decade is such a long time.
I guess the biggest change for me has been the move away from PC to the console. This comes partly from having more money to spend on console games and things like TVs, but also that I just don’t have the patience to faff about getting games to work anymore. Yes, the console experience is probably not a good as the “peak” PC one, but it’s good enough and consistent enough and so much less hassle. So the biggest thing this gen is that I became an awful console fanboy.
Edit: I’m going to add more as they come to me.
- Telltale’s The Walking Dead
- FTL: Faster Than Light
- Titanfall 2 (duh)
- Nier Automata
