Jogort I like it a lot more than the X. It looks more in line with the current models and bizarrely more premium in terms of materials.

This is very true. I worked in games a few years back and some of the most outrageous fanboys I’ve ever met were game devs.

Yeah. I was quite shocked by one particular dev friend years back. Nice guy but honestly his corporate loyalty quotient was really high.

It shouldn’t really be a surprise. You get into must creative industries by being a fan first. But there’s something about the console wars that can turn the nicest, smartest folk into slavering, pad chewing loons. 😃

Gordon It’s understandable though; if one console makes the job easier and the other is a real pain to work with (esp if one port limits the other), then the devs are going to be seeing an extra dimension to the consoles that us gamers don’t see, which is going to accentuate any preferences.

Despite previously posting how disappointed I am with the launch titles (which is still true), now all the details and price has spilled out I’m very, very tempted to get XSX day one.

I have a Day One X1 and so the jump will be significant for me and I’m just thinking about the 3rd party stuff I can enjoy until I get my games room back next year - Cyberpunk for one! I was all geared up for it being £500 so £450 is a sweet surprise and makes me tempted to also pick up the 2nd generation Elite controller.

BritishBean experience in playing games should be greatly improved. Load times, snappier OS, you’ll be getting enhanced X1X versions of games you already own and other b/c enhancements too.

BritishBean I think that’s a good point actually, for people still on the base Xbox the Series S will be a big jump.

I should add though. My own industry, photography, is TERRIBLE for this. Or was. Canon vs Nikon, had the worst, the very worst fanboys I’ve ever seen.

What made it worse was that most pros will tell you the most important thing in photography is between your ears.

But the camera manufacturers kept on making the easy punches. Those being almost identical to what they do in gaming. Megapixels. Which really really don’t matter anymore unless you’re shooting for billboard ads that somehow people can get right up to.

In practice everyone is a winner yet you have these massive gangs of corporate loyalists trying to prove the other lot are losers.

Thankfully things have really opened up in camera land. With Fuji and Sony really changing everything.

Although, unsurprisingly, Sony are still going hard in the megapixel game there too.

‘We should be driven to help gaming as an industry grow, for creators to take the biggest risks they can. When a great game comes out, we should applaud it, whether it’s for PC, or PlayStation or on a Switch.’

‘We should focus on this industry that we love and see it continue to grow. And we should protect it from the issues that it does have. If we’re going to spend energy, let’s go spend it on those things, not ‘my piece of plastic is better than your piece of plastic.’ I don’t think that’s a productive conversation.’
