Ok so I’ve finally got round to playing this. In fact the whole family is giving it a go during the holidays.
It’s extremely impressive. Very definitely a benchmark for all VR games from this point forward.
Some of the interactions are holodeck level good, especially force pulling stuff towards you with the gravity gloves. Of course, it doesn’t always work perfectly but when it does, my god you’re right there.
And in relation to holodeck stuff, it was fascinating watching Lily play; she was just walking around as if she was in the space. The guardian feature on the rift is very good so she didn’t walk out of the defined space.
I have difficulty doing that. I tend to use a hybrid of smooth joystick movement and what they call blink movement. But I don’t tend to physically walk around the space. For her it was just second nature.
It builds things up fairly slowly ( not made any faster by the fact that you’ll spend an age discovering what you can pick up and put on your head); but having just come across my first head crabs I have to say, clear away all the good crockery. You’ll be swinging your outstretched gun-holding arm around like a hopped-up crook in a batman movie.
I’m now stumped by a puzzle section but I’ll figure it out tomorrow. Or rather, I’ll watch Rachel figure it out tomorrow and copy her after. 😉
But so far. After two evening’s play, it lives up to the hype.
