I’d be all over that like a rash. I reckon that could be a deciding factor for a lot of multiplatform gamers.

A hardware sub that also incorporates ultimate game pass could easily make the next Xbox, the first next gen console I buy.

And then MS can go to the big third parties with the numbers behind them and bag various flavours of “exclusive” in the first year or two.*

Sony need to be careful here I think.

*And then a year later Ninty drop a sequel to the switch ( with Oculus Quest like VR features ) that panic button can somehow coax to run Cyberpunk 😉

It’s really just the mobile phone contract model applied to the XBox. OK if you have a relatively small monthly discretionary budget, but not really anything approaching a good deal otherwise. You’d almost be better off just taking out a small personal loan to buy the console outright.

Jonbwfc true, but it’s an interesting development and one I’ll reassess next year when the next box releases. It works now because of Game Pass, and I think it may well do good business. It might also signal a quicker mid-gen refresh - 2 years?

You do get game pass ultimate as well though. I think in terms of the number of games you get over a two year period, the value is pretty high tbh. One game a month of the calibre of say, The Outer Worlds and you’re pretty much negating the outlay.

at least that’s how my idiot brain rationalises it. =)
