Mentioned this and Amid Evil in a random post a few months back. Finally got round to picking Dusk up last weekend when it was on offer at GoG. So slight qualification needed Quake and Quake 2 were definitely my era, I played Wolf3D and Doom but the Quake’s were games that I bought a PC (and later a GFX card) for, well, that and some university thing.
Dusk is an astonishing throwback to Quake, warts and all. But good lord is it fun to play, eye wateringly fast and with straightforward but still fun levels and enemies. The nearest comparison I can think of is the Doom reboot. It’s not nearly as pretty or violent, but it’s the same high paced action and level structure, with tons of secrets to uncover. Basically, if the idea of Quake but ever so slightly more modern appeals, then you’ll love it.
