I think MS have improved to be fair, but one of the reasons that I’m now beardybrave instead of bravearse (aside from worrying about Lily eventually learning to read back then 😉 ) was because at the time they blocked my account because I couldn’t turn off renew and they charged an expired card. So I still have a bone to pick with them.
Similarly, Sony at least until recently wouldn’t let you remove all payment details. You had to have at least one payment option on there if you’d already entered one. That was not on. Don’t know if it’s still the case.
edit: reason I know this. Rachel got hacked a few years back and had her primary PS4 changed by someone, and Sony wouldn’t let her remove payment details. Took weeks of Sony victim blaming to get it sorted. Rachel had done literally nothing wrong. There was a spate of complaints about hijacked accounts at the time, Sony very suddenly capitulated and rach got her account back, they introduced 2fA at the same time thankfully.
