Yeah it’s absolutely on him this time. I get the sporting intention of the McLaren team and honestly it’s really laudable (and imo a direct reaction to some of the increasingly unsporting behaviour that’s been prevalent recently compared to the heyday of the sport*) but it’s starting to become obvious that they’ve taken it too far now. The pit stop saga being the point of no return I think.
*OT Ramble:
I know there was still bad sportsmanship back then too, but my memory of Senna, for example, pre his death, was that he was seen as supremely talented but that he was a supremely talented dick who went too far too often. Which was doubly frustrating as there was no need for it. He could win in anything.
There’s been a lot of hero worship around what he and Prost did that set precedent for the likes of Schumacher and Vettel that made the sport worse. Thankfully, I think Max might be the peak of that and I think we’re seeing some teams pull back from it.
