So, Neo is a man in a suit pretending to be a robot. Each task is a recipe for disaster: e.g. watering the plants (missing the plant pot, refilling, repeating loop), chopping vegetables (chop off expensive fingers), killing the pets, setting house on fire.

I don’t think the AI bubble is going to burst - but the exact opposite: the thirst for AI knowledge will grow and discoveries by AI will create the foundation for more AI discoveries - it will snowball. There will be “AI wars” with every organisation attempting to create the superior AI. Our dependence upon AI will increase until we become totally dependent upon it.

The thing with these “AI” is that there is no great mystery behind them, we understand exactly how they work. They are not intelligent, they don’t comprehend, they don’t do logic, they just pick the most likely next word from a data set. The “cleverness” comes from the huge size of the data set. These sorts of AI don’t learn from what is typed in, they only learn when the model is upgraded (e.g GPT4 to GPT5). Generative AI is very cool party trick, it can do some useful stuff, but it’s trivial to expose the limitations of how it works.

AI designs antibiotics for gonorrhoea and MRSA superbugs.
I realise it’s not true intelligence in the organic sense but there’s the idea that we are just organic computers so it could work on similar principles. The “knowledge” build up can be continual and more importantly: centralised - not scattered around disconnected human minds. However you interpret it, it’s very powerful and is having an increasing impact at it develops and I don’t think it’s bubble will burst any time soon.

Gammerz That’s using machine learning which has been around for a while. The bubble is Nvidia and OpenAI pushing LLMs as one step away from AGI, the whole tech industry, the stock market and many governments around the world falling for it and betting hundreds of billions of dollars on a technology that produces plausible sounding but factually unreliable text and basically not much else.

This is a perfect example of one of the big problems with this whole situation. The companies pushing LLMs have so successfully subverted and corrupted the general perception of what “AI” even refers to that people just assume anything done by computers nowadays was somehow invented by ChatGPT.
