Happy new year folks. I hope it’s a good un for you all.

Mine is starting almost immediately (Jan 15) as I transfer from the MA I was doing to a brand new one. This time entirely photography centred and genuinely the MA I wanted to do in the first place. I talked to them about six years ago about it but couldn’t make the financials work and last year I couldn’t make it work time wise. Now that I have empty nest syndrome, I can… and really need to 😉

Still had to get accepted mind as it’s not got many slots each year. Thankfully that went smoothly, got accepted a few days after sending my portfolio in.

The one I was doing changed my life, genuinely, In just the first module. But the consensus has been that it’s been less amazing since then and I’ve been getting frustrated by it. I was very part time. Just one module per term out of a possible 3 and I was still reading between 150 to 200 pages of dense academic text a week.

Other than that. I want to start enjoying racing again and maybe get back into iracing. Although that could easily put itself at odds with the MA 😄

So 2024:

  • re-establish my photography practice via my MA
  • Get back into sim racing
  • Ignore the rest of the world, or try to at least

23 was an extremely mixed bag. Some great highs. Some terrible lows.

I’d very much like a less bumpy ride this year, fate, if yer reading. 😉

Happy New Year everyone.

I, as is now traditional on NYE came down with a nasty lurgy and was in bed by 22:00.

Plans for the year:
Run 1200km
Cycle 1000km
Get scrum master certified. 😀
Be a little less obsessed about renewable energy.

Hope you all had a good time and the noggins ain’t too sore.

2023 was a decent year for me, my career continues to progress well. The project we are working on hit the rocks and we had a complete change of direction and tech stack back in June. While that was not great itself it gave me a great opportunity to show off my skills and after a management shakeup I’m now one of the key developers on the project. My work colleagues continue to be a delight to be around and our squad is absolutely best in class.

For personal stuff I started to actually spend some of my money. I went on a big holiday to America for the first time, I learned to drive and bought my first car. Hopefully this should give me a lot more freedom going forward and open up new things to do.

Plans for 2024:

  • Buy a house
  • Try to get into a position where I’m able to go for VP promotion in 2025
  • Go on some nice driving holidays around Scotland
  • Maybe drive down to Silverstone for the GP

Happy New Year!

Plans:

  1. Do more and procrastinate less - When I don’t have the time I wish I had the time to do stuff, then when I do have some time I procrastinate so much I end up not using it so well.
  2. Get fit and lose some weight - this is a needed thing but with the goal of attempting the South West coastal path over the next couple of years.
  3. Be more creative - linked to 1. but do more stuff where I am creating rather than just consuming.

Happy new year! Hope everyone had a good one. I watched Mary Poppins Returns with my kids and was in bed well before the bells. Perfect Hogmanay.

Goals for 2024 :

Finish the game I’m making at work

Edinburgh marathon end of May (started training a few months back)

Tons of jobs around the house (attic conversion, swapping bedrooms around, generally making it not look like it was lived in by a wee old lady before we bought it, which it was)

Make a proper start on a personal game project I’ve been thinking about for a while

That should keep me busy.

Happy new year to you all 🎉
Hope everyone had a nice relaxing festive period. We just had my folks & my sister up for crimbo dinner (kids were at their mums this year) and then Hogmanay in Stonehaven to see the swinging fireballs.

As for 2024, how do I top 2023!! Got married last January, then spent 6 months hiking in some of the most amazing wilderness I’ve ever seen and top it off with a promotion the day I returned from the USA, hadn’t been in work for months 🤣 I’ve still to make some sort of watchable video from all the photos we took.
So for this year, I think it’ll be a quiet one, who knows. I aim to do more with the drone videos & photos I have, get some printed off for the house and get my telescope out more often for some Astrotoggin….oh yeah…and some gaming 🤣

I have actually finished a game already this year, decided to go back and play Jedi Fallen order again as I’d never finished it. I was reading that the sequel was excellent so wanted to get it done. Now onto Jedi Survivor and so far it is bloody good.

23 days later

Passed the scrum master certification earlier.

Exam was weirdly intense.

Scrum is an Agile framework used by software development teams. The scrum master makes sure that scrum is being followed, although I’ve never actually worked with one myself so not sure exactly what they do. 🙂

In my squad we use a combination of scrum and kanban. We don’t bother with sprints but we do follow the same demo/retro schedule as the other squads in our fleet. Our work is difficult to estimate so having fixed sprints is a bit pointless

Alex sounds very similar to what we do. We tried sprints during a main project phase but found the work we do tends to have too many unpredictable dependencies outside my team. So we work mostly with a Kanban approach.

Jogort I’m very disappointed that it’s not rugby
