Had a chance to spend a few hours on this today. I think the latest update has addressed quite a lot of the performance issues but I did have to spend a bit time tinkering to get it running a reasonable 60ish fps while still looking nice. That’s to be expected with an ultra wide monitor though. Lots more pixels to push.
I really love the handling. It’s a big step forward from both the dirt series and the recent WRC games. It’s like they met in the middle and then forged further ahead. Very good sense of weight and the grip levels even on historics are much more reasonable and predictable.
I did a time trial in an early 2000s WRC Peugeot and it was glorious fun. 47th globally in my second attempt 😉.
Tried out the career and it’s very similar to the WRC games but they’ve really filled it out where it was lacking before. It’s very compelling and I’ve started in jwrc (you can start in Rally1 if you like) just because I want to get a good feel for the handling. I’m going to have to push up the difficulty though as I was winning each stage by a good minute plus.
Feedback seemed really detailed too.
Racenet has had a lot of work too. It’s all cross platform so if anyone else gets it we can easily set up a private club championship or time trial or whatever regardless of platform. There are official clubs too which I’m going to look at soon. It even has an analysis tab where you can see where you’re losing time and how much pedal pressure you’re applying per corner. It looked very detailed.
I think there’s something very special here. Especially seeing as you’ve got a huge number of real world properly scanned tracks. I believe they used photogrammetry to get them all right.
Yes. There are still performance issues but they seem to be actively dealing with them. I’m getting good frame rates with nice graphics on an ultra wide after some tweaks and I’ve only seen a couple of stutters which disappeared entirely on a second run through the stages.
