This is really really bloody good. Think of it as the love child of Xcom and the original Syndicate (something I don’t really understand why others haven’t spotted yet) blended with a little bit of Darkest Dungeon.
You control your squad of 4 as a whole, playing the role of the person back in the command room barking orders. You call the shots and the most suitable/nearest squad member will do it, but this is made a little more random by the myriad starting traits (clumsy, short sighted, reckless, depressed, coward etc) and the additional trauma and stress based traits that they gain as you try to go deeper into the infested planetary mining towns you’re trapped in.
You can create your own squad members if you like and there’s the traditional xcom base system where you can get people treated, research new tech, promote squaddies etc.
As someone with a real soft spot for the Alien universe, they’ve really done such a good job of hitting the right tone. Particularly for Aliens plural, rather than Alien. It’s tense and action packed and scary at times. The acting is a great mix of near perfect schlock and hammy stilted AA 90s and 2000s game dialogue.
It’s well worth a try imo. Pretty difficult too. I’ve just finished my first town, killed my first queen and it took me a number of sorties down into the town to level up and gather enough resources to take on the final encounter.
A surprise gem.
