Alex Eduardo Freitas is a genius decision. Of all the FIA officials out there, as the gravelly voice of god behind LeMans 24 hrs he’s absolutely got the chops to stand by the rules and tell the teams where to get off. My only concern is that alternating with someone else is a recipe for the same inconsistency they’ve been criticised for previously in F1.
On a separate note
Looks like Ferrari are taking some big risks here. Garry Anderson said it looks like the top and bottom have been designed separately and don’t quite meet in the middle.
I’m really loving these designs. Visually, I think it’s interesting that we seem to be looping back to really fundamentally organic looking designs after decades of pointy boxes. This gen is the biggest leap I can remember in terms of design fundamentals. And I’m also loving the substantial differences in approach. The side pods in particular look incredibly different from team to team and it’s actually layering on an additional source of interest in terms of who’s going to come out on top.
I suspect these designs might actually end up being closer to each other on track than last year too, which pleases me no end.
