Absolutely fascinating piece of journalism by Vox. It’s actually made me consider my own sporting past. I suffered a good number of high G impacts (I was a particularly immovable defender) playing hockey through my teens and early twenties. Only two of those were considered actual concussions but I hadn’t considered the notion of a micro concussion too. There were certainly other times beyond those two when I felt “off” afterwards.
One of the issues I frequently have is what is commonly referred to as brain fog. It comes and goes, but when it strikes it’s the thinking equivalent of trying to see through soup.
This would be at least a partial explanation for why it happens to me.
I don’t regret my sporting past, I actually miss it. But I wish I’d known what we know now. I could have mitigated things a fair bit at least.
